Persija Defeated by Persib in BRI Liga 1, Thomas Doll: The Match Should Have Ended in a Draw

Persija Defeated by Persib in BRI Liga 1, Thomas Doll: The Match Should Have Ended in a Draw

Persija Jakarta lost 1-2 to Persib Bandung in the match week 28 of BRI Liga 1 2023/2024 at the Si Jalak Harupat Stadium, Bandung Regency, Saturday (9/3/2024) afternoon WIB.

Persija fell behind first through David da Silva’s goal in the 20th minute. The Brazilian striker’s goal was scored after taking advantage of a thrown ball that was knocked over by the Kemayoran Tiger Team goalkeeper, Andritany Ardhiyasa.

Behind one goal, Persija Jakarta increased the intensity of their attacks. As a result, Persija managed to equalize the score at 1-1 through Maciej Gajos’ header in the 28th minute.

This draw lasted until halftime. Entering the second half, Persija Jakarta conceded again through David da Silva’s penalty in the 69th minute. Persib Bandung received a penalty after Rizki Ridho made a handball in the forbidden box.

Should Have Taken One Point

Persija Jakarta coach , Thomas Doll, congratulated Persib Bandung on their victory in this match. However, Doll was disappointed because Persija should have been able to get points at Persib Bandung headquarters .

“I don’t think we should have lost this match. Because I think we conceded due to a mistake and we also had a chance to score a goal,” said Doll after the match.

Playing Well

In terms of play, the German coach saw that his team had performed well. Several times Maciej Gajos and his friends had opportunities, but failed to convert them into goals.

“We were able to defend well, and we also had opportunities in several situations, we should have had the final finish and the players ran better to at least get a draw,” he said.

Still in the Middle Board

“In the end, we were very disappointed because I don’t think Persib played their best game. For me, normally this ends in a draw,” continued Doll.

With this result, Persija had to be satisfied with remaining in the middle of the board. The Kemayoran Tiger squad is in tenth place in the BRI Liga 1 standings with a collection of 35 points from 28 matches, 16 points behind Persib Bandung in second place.
