FIFA released the latest article to discuss the drastic improvement in the performance of the Indonesian National Team . The highest world football body also appreciated Indonesia’s development as the country with the highest ranking increase in the FIFA rankings as of April 4 2024.
Apart from that, the Indonesian National Team is also the team with the most points in the FIFA ranking period from 15 February to 4 April 2024.
Coach Shin Tae-yong’s squad rocketed eight positions from 142nd to 134th. The team nicknamed the Garuda Squad also got 30.04 points.
The Indonesian National Team’s achievements came from two wins over the Vietnam National Team in Group A of the second round of the 2026 World Cup Qualification Asia Zone at the end of March 2024.
FIFA’s review of the Indonesian National Team
“Indonesian football is making good progress,” wrote the title of the FIFA article which was published on Monday (8/4/2024).
FIFA interviewed PSSI regarding the fast pace of the Indonesian National Team in the FIFA rankings and hosting the 2023 U-17 World Cup in November-December last year.
“Indonesia’s long-term target is to participate in the World Cup. Indonesian football and PSSI are growing rapidly thanks to FIFA’s contribution,” explained FIFA.
Top 100 Target
“The Indonesian national team’s ranking in the FIFA rankings has shown continuous improvement since 2021 and has brought them closer to their goal of entering the top 100,” added FIFA.
PSSI does have a short-term goal of getting the Indonesian national team into the top 100 in the FIFA rankings. It is not impossible that this target will be realized in the next year if the Garuda Squad can win often, especially against opponents who are above them.
Timans Indonesia also still has the opportunity to advance to the 2026 World Cup. Currently, the Garuda Squad is in second place in Group F of the second round of qualifying with seven points from three matches.
