A total of four ASEAN teams had already competed in the U-23 Asian Cup before Indonesia . Vietnam scored the highest achievement.
The U-23 national team has qualified for the 2024 U-23 Asian Cup finals in Qatar. The event will take place from April 15 to May 3 2024.
For Indonesia, this is their debut in the U-23 Asian Cup. The Red-White Team was immediately joined in a tough group, competing with Qatar, Australia and Jordan in Group A.
Apart from Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia and Myanmar have competed in this event. The description can be seen below.
ASEAN Team Achievements in the U-23 Asian Cup
1. Vietnam
The Vietnam national team has competed in the U-23 Asian Cup four times . The event in Qatar will be the Golden Star Warrior’s fifth appearance.
Vietnam qualified in 2016, 2018, 2020 and 2022. Vietnam’s best achievement was finishing runner-up six years ago under the guidance of Park Hang-seo. With this achievement, Vietnam qualified for the Olympics.
In the other three editions, Vietnam finished in the group phase twice and reached the quarter-finals once.
2. Thailand
The Thai national team has competed in the Asian Cup four times. Just like Vietnam, the event in Qatar is also the fifth participation.
Thailand is still stuck in the quarterfinals in this event. They achieved it in the 2018 edition, apart from that they always finished in the group phase.
3. Malaysia
The Malaysian national team has qualified for the U-23 Asian Cup finals three times, including this year. In two previous participations, Harimau Muda qualified for the quarter-finals in 2018 and finished in the group phase in 2022.
4. Myanmar
The Myanmar national team once qualified for the U-23 Asian Cup. They qualified in the first edition, in 2013.
Myanmar stopped in the group phase. In three matches, Myanmar always lost, conceding 13 times and scoring once.
5. Indonesia
Indonesia will be a debutant in the 2024 U-23 Asian Cup . In its first action, Indonesia immediately carried out the mission of qualifying for the group and even expressed hopes of getting to the 2024 Olympics.
