Second Champions League stage for Arsenal and Arteta

The 2024/2025 Champions League will be Mikel Arteta second experience with Arsenal. They should learn from last season’s failure.

The Gunners had been absent from the Champions League for quite some time . They last appeared in the 2016/17 season, then were absent for years, until Arteta brought the team back in the 2023/2024 season.

Unfortunately, Arsenal still seemed a little bit stage fright last season. They made it to the quarter-finals. Not bad, but could have been better.

Well this season, Arsenal are back in the Champions League. Arteta knows his team is more ready.

Should be able to do more

Last season’s run to the quarter-finals was actually very good for Arsenal. They had not progressed that far for years, even being absent for quite some time.

Arteta also hopes his team has learned from last season’s experience. Now the Arsenal squad knows more about the toughness of the Champions League.

“I hope so . Last season was great for us. We got to a position that we as a club have not been in for 16-18 years,” said Arteta.

“Of course we are not satisfied and not happy, because we want more. The players have shown their desire.”

Will There Be Changes, Arsenal?

Arteta said last season’s experience had made his team better prepared, but he acknowledged that Champions League football is never easy.

“We have learned lessons and in some aspects, we can still do better. We also have to realise that the opponents here are elite European clubs, they know how to play and compete,” Arteta concluded.

Arsenal will begin their Champions League campaign this season with a visit to Atalanta’s headquarters, matchday 1, kick-off Friday 20 September 2024 early morning WIB.
