Liverpool manager Arne Slot denied the notion that his team would become weaker if they did not bring in new ammunition in the summer of 2024.
Liverpool’s current squad is not much different from last season. Only three players have been released.
Joel Matip and Thiago left after their contracts were not extended. Meanwhile, Fabio Carvalho was sold to Brentford.
On the other hand, Liverpool have not bought a single player. They tried to recruit Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad but failed.
Liverpool Will Not Weaken
Liverpool’s passive attitude in the 2024 summer transfer market has certainly made some of its supporters anxious. Some are even afraid that the Reds’ squad will weaken if they don’t recruit new players.
But Arne Slot denied the allegations. He stressed that Liverpool remain a strong squad.
“I don’t understand that argument. If you don’t strengthen yourself, you will become weaker?” he asked, as quoted by Goal .
“We remain the same. I truly believe you can help in training and improve your skills,” he said.
“It has helped the players to improve their skills here,” Slot said.
New Players Are Not a Guarantee of Making the Club Stronger
Arne Slot then provided additional arguments to defend Liverpool. He claimed that the presence of new players does not automatically make a team stronger.
“If other clubs strengthen, they will be better, but it is not always true that new players make you stronger. Every player in the team needs perspective on playing time,” he explained.
“If you keep bringing in players, the energy will be reduced. Me and Richard are trying to strengthen ourselves, if we feel we have found someone, we try to bring him in. Unfortunately, the person we found (Zubimendi) said no,” Slot said.
