Cristiano Ronaldo failed to show his best performance with Portugal at Euro 2024. Because of that, William Gallas did not hesitate to choose Ronaldo as the most flop player in the tournament.

Ronaldo is again trusted to strengthen Portugal at Euro 2024. The 39-year-old star was asked by Roberto Martinez to lead the A Selecao squad in this tournament.

Before joining Euro 2024, Ronaldo performed sharply with Al Nassr and ended the season as the top scorer of the 2023/2024 Saudi Arabian League with 35 goals. However, Ronaldo was barren at Euro 2024.

Ronaldo has failed to score in five games and missed a penalty against Slovenia.

Portugal ultimately failed to progress further at Euro 2024. They were stopped by France in the quarter-finals.

Ronaldo Fails to Live Up to Expectations

Former Chelsea player William Gallas was very hopeful that Ronaldo would shine at Euro 2024. However, that was not to be.

“I’m going to get in trouble for saying this, and before that, I have to say that this is a player I have a lot of respect for,” Gallas told Lord Ping.

“For his last Euros, I want Ronaldo to shine in this competition because he deserves it after what he has done in the world of football and for the example he has set for the younger players.

“Unfortunately, this time, it didn’t happen for him.”

Most Flop Player

Gallas is a big fan of Ronaldo. However, due to his sub-par performance at Euro 2024, Gallas reluctantly chose Ronaldo as the most failed player in the tournament.

“Look, I like him as a professional. I like his attitude and his desire. I like what he has achieved in his career, so it’s very difficult for me to label him the biggest failure at Euro 2024, but his performances weren’t there,” he continued.

“It’s difficult for me to choose him. Everyone will say he’s 39, but I think football fans from all over the world expect more from him in this tournament.

“We’d love to see him do something special at his final Euros, and that would be a brilliant story and a brilliant way to celebrate his legendary career.”

Not Just Ronaldo

For Gallas, Ronaldo was not the only player who failed to shine at Euro 2024. Kylian Mbappe and Harry Kane also did not perform optimally.

“Unfortunately, he didn’t score a single goal and it seemed like he played with too much pressure on his shoulders. In the end, it was very difficult for him,” he added.

“He’s not the only star who hasn’t shone brightly in this tournament. Mbappe hasn’t been at his best. Harry Kane hasn’t been at his best.”
