Premier League club Arsenal finally announced that they have officially brought in Mikel Merino from Real Sociedad , Tuesday (27/08/2024).

Arsenal have been getting stronger of late. But Mikel Arteta is not happy with his squad.

He also targeted a new midfielder. From there, the name of Sociedad midfielder Merino emerged.

The Spaniard was reportedly also being targeted by several other clubs. However, Merino decided to join Arsenal.

Arsenal Announce Merino Transfer

On its official website, Arsenal said that Mikel Merino was given a long-term contract. However, they did not reveal the details of the contract.

“Spain international Mikel Merino has joined us from La Liga club Real Sociedad on a long-term contract,” the Gunners said in a statement.

Arsenal has also given a jersey number to Merino. He is believed to wear the jersey with number 23.

“Mikel will wear the number 23 shirt and will join his new teammates at the Sobha Realty Training Centre.”

“Everyone at Arsenal welcomes Mikel Merino to the club. The transfer is subject to completion of the regulatory process.”

Edu Welcome

Arsenal director Edu welcomed Mikel Merino’s transfer openly. He admitted that he was very satisfied with Merino’s arrival because he was indeed the Gunners’ main target.

“We are delighted to have completed the transfer of Mikel Merino. It has been a great team effort from many people at the club to complete the transfer of a player who attracted interest from a number of clubs during the summer,” he said.

“Mikel was a key target for us this summer, and we identified him as a player who could fit perfectly into our squad and profile to improve our performances, as we look to build on our strong performance last season. Mikel’s arrival brings us top-quality experience, physicality and athleticism as we look ahead to the season,” he said.

“We welcome Mikel and his family to the club and look forward to seeing him playing in an Arsenal shirt,” Edu said.
