Erling Haaland is allowed to take leave if the Manchester City striker needs time to rest after the death of his close friend, Ivar Eggja.
As best man at Alfie Haaland’s wedding in a decades-long friendship, Eggja has become a confidant of the Premier League Golden Boot winner.
The two are so close that Haaland calls him ‘uncle’, with the 59-year-old playing a key role in the player’s camp.
Haaland trained with Pep Guardiola’s squad on Thursday ahead of Saturday’s clash with Brentford , but the Man City boss stressed that family comes first and would not stand in the way of players leaving for personal reasons.

Eggja was present at Haaland’s unveiling at the Etihad Stadium in 2022 and has remained by the Norway international’s side for much of his career. They attended last year’s Ballon d’Or ceremony together.
“You are a legend, Ivar,” said Haaland.
“Words can’t describe how much you mean to me! Words can’t describe how much you will be missed!”
Eggja Has a Big Role
Haaland is well aware of the impact Eggja has had on him in helping with logistics and finding an apartment in the city centre when he moved from Borussia Dortmund.
“Thanks for everything, crazy man. We will meet again. Rest in peace, Ivar,” Haaland added.
Positive Rate
Manchester City have won their first three games of the Premier League season and are top of the table as they look to secure a fifth successive title.
Haaland has scored seven goals in three league games so far this season, with back-to-back hat-tricks against Ipswich Town and West Ham.
He then scored Norway’s winner against Austria on Monday night as the hosts claimed a 2-1 victory in Oslo.
