Matthijs De Ligt’s Classy Proof: Scores a Goal After Being Completely Blasphemed

Matthijs De Ligt managed to prove that he is not a flop player. He showed this in the Manchester United vs Southampton match.

As is well known, De Ligt has recently been in the spotlight of Dutch citizens. The reason is that the defender performed poorly in the September 2024 international break.

He made two blunders in two UEFA Nations League matches with Die Oranje. As a result, he received quite a lot of insults and criticism.

But De Ligt showed a strong mentality. He immediately got up and proved that he was not as bad as people said.

Check out the review below.

Become the Best Player

A few days after the match against the German national team, De Ligt was again trusted by Erik Ten Hag to be the starter in MU’s defense. He played from the start when MU visited Southampton headquarters.

In this match, De Ligt defended very solidly from the start of the match. He was also able to score MU’s first goal against The Saints in this match.

Thanks to his great performance, De Ligt was named man of the match in the fourth week of the 2024/2025 Premier League match.

Become a Differentiator

Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag said he was satisfied with the performance shown by De Ligt. He said the defender was really the difference for his team.

“At the start of the match we experienced difficulties. But after Mata scored a goal, we were able to control the match,” said Ten Hag to TNT Sports.

“We brought in a player with many good attributes in him, and one of his main qualities is that he is very dangerous at set pieces,” concluded Ten Hag.

Rank Up

The victory against Southampton more or less boosted Manchester United’s position in the Premier League standings.

The Red Devils are now ranked 10th with six points from four matches.
