Shin Tae-yong Reveals When He Will Meet with PSSI and Sign New Contract

Shin Tae-yong Reveals When He Will Meet with PSSI and Sign New Contract

Shin Tae-yong was recently able to exceed the two targets given by PSSI. The first target is to advance to the last 16 of the 2023 Asian Cup.

The Indonesian national team was able to advance to this phase with the status of one of the best third places in the group phase. This was the first time the Garuda squad competed in the knockout phase of the Asian Cup.

The second target is to qualify for the quarter-finals of the 2024 U-23 Asian Cup. Shin Tae-yong’s U-23 Indonesian national team was even able to advance to the semifinals of the tournament.

A verbal agreement regarding Shin Tae-yong’s new contract has also been made. However, until now the new contract has not been signed.

“Because Mr. Erick is very busy, there is no definite date yet, most likely next week we will meet Mr. Erick,” said Shin Tae-yong while attending an event at the Hyundai Driving Experience, SCBD, Jakarta, Tuesday (14/5/2024).

Commitment

Even though he has not yet signed a new contract with PSSI, Shin Tae-yong emphasized his commitment to the Indonesian National Team. Shin is ready to work until 2027 to handle the Garuda Squad.

“We haven’t signed yet, but there have been conversations with Erick that we will continue together until 2027,” said Shin Tae-yong.

Shin Tae-yong first received a contract from PSSI at the end of 2019. At that time PSSI was still led by Mochamad Iriawan alias Iwan Bule.

2 Crucial Matches

After playing in the 2023 Asian Cup and 2024 U-23 Asian Cup, Shin Tae-yong will be faced with two tough matches next June.

The Indonesian national team will play two home matches in the 2026 World Cup Qualification Group F match in the Asian zone. The Red and White Team will host Iraq at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium, Jakarya, June 6, and the Philippines five days later.

Currently the Indonesian national team is in second place in Group F of the second phase of the 2026 World Cup Qualifications in the Asian zone. The opportunity for Marc Klok and his friends to advance to the third phase is very big, especially if they manage to win in the last two matches.
