Allah’s Destiny is the Decree of Allah SWT, Get to Know The Types And Examples

The destiny of Allah is a term for the knowledge of Allah SWT which covers all of nature. Allah SWT writes all events that happen to humans. In Islam itself, Allah’s destiny is referred to as qada and qadar.

Qada means the will of Allah SWT whose form from the beginning is related to everything that will happen from the smallest to the largest. Meanwhile, qadar is a manifestation of Allah which includes things by qada. This is as explained in Surah Al-Qamar verse 49, which means:

“Indeed, We created everything according to measure.” (QS Al-Qamar: 49)

Belief in fate or qadha and qadar is the 6th, or final, pillar of faith. Believing in destiny means that someone believes and believes that Allah has created all creatures with His nature and irodat and all His wisdom.

Below are several types of destiny from Allah SWT that you can recognize and understand, namely:

1. Mubram’s destiny

The first type of Allah’s destiny is Mubram’s destiny. Mubram’s destiny is an absolute provision from Allah SWT which will definitely apply and humans are not given a role in making it happen. Examples of this type of divine destiny include human birth and death. Of course, no one knows when you will be born and when you will die. Everything is a secret of Allah SWT and happens according to His decree.

2. Muallaq’s fate

The next type of Allah’s destiny is Muaallaq’s destiny. The destiny of the convert is a provision of Allah SWT which includes the role of humans through their efforts or endeavors. Examples of this type of divine destiny include the success of students at school in achieving achievements. Students who excel are not students who just don’t study and just wait for fate. However, he always tries and learns every day to achieve the goals he hopes for.

In this way, apart from being determined by the destiny of Allah SWT, what he achieved was also supported by the efforts and prayers he made. So, you have to try, but you also have to pray and be willing to accept all the fate that has been determined by Allah SWT.

People who work diligently will be rich, and those who are lazy in trying will be poor, as He says:

“Indeed, Allah does not change the condition of a people until they change the condition that exists within themselves.”  (Ar-Rad: 11).

Allah’s destiny is something decreed and decided by Allah SWT. However, there is a belief that Allah also gives humans the freedom to pray, try and do good deeds. Even though humans cannot completely change God’s plan, these good deeds can influence how a person experiences and responds to that destiny. Here are some practices taught in Islam that can play a role in facing destiny:

1. Pray (Do’a)

Praying to Allah is the recommended way to ask for His help, blessings and guidance in dealing with all situations. Even though the final outcome is God’s decision, prayer can change how we feel and can bring blessings. This is as in the following hadith:

“Nothing can reject God’s destiny, except prayer.” (HR. Tirmidhi, Hakim, Ahmad, and Ibnu Majah).

From Ummul Mukminin ‘Aisyah radhiyallahu ‘anha, Rasulullah sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam taught the following prayer,

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ مِنَ الخَيْرِ كُلِّهِ عَاجِلِهِ وَآجِلِهِ ، مَا عَلِمْتُ مِنْهُ وَمَا لَمْ أَعْلَمْ ، وَأَعُوْذُ بِكَ مِنَ الشَّرِّ كُلِّهِ عَاجِلِهِ وَآجِلِهِ ، مَا عَلِمْتُ مِنْهُ وَمَا لَمْ أَعْلَمْ ، اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ خَيْرِ مَا سَأَلَكَ عَبْدُكَ وَنَبِيُّكَ ، وَأَعُوْذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا عَاذَ بِهِ عَبْدُكَ وَنَبِيُّكَ ، اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ الجَنَّةَ وَمَا قرَّبَ إِلَيْهَا مِنْ قَولٍ أَوْ عَمَلٍ ، وَأَعُوْذُ بِكَ مَنَ النَّارِ وَمَا قَرَّبَ إِلَيْهَا مِنْ قَوْلٍ أَوْ عَمَلٍ ، وَأَسْأَلُكَ أَنْ تَجْعَلَ كُلَّ قَضَاءٍ قَضَيْتَهُ لِي خَيْرًا

Meaning: “O Allah, I ask You for all good things that are hastened and postponed, what I know or what I do not know. I seek refuge in You from all evil, both hastened and postponed, what I know and what I do not I know. O Allah, truly I ask You for goodness from what Your servant and Prophet Muhammad shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam asks of You and I seek refuge in You from what Your servant and prophet asks for protection. O Allah, I ask You for heaven and what brings it closer to it in the form of words and deeds. And I seek refuge in You from hell and what brings it closer to it in the form of words or deeds. And I ask You for all the fate that You determine good for me.” (Narrated by Ibnu Majah, no. 3846 and Ahmad, 6:133. Al-Hafizh Abu Thahir said that the sanad of this hadith is authentic).

2. Strive with effort

Even though destiny has been determined, humans are given the freedom to try and work hard to achieve their goals. Serious and sustainable effort is an important value in Islam.

3. Do Good (Pious Charity)

Doing good deeds such as doing good to others, giving alms, and doing other good deeds can bring blessings to a person’s life and change the way a person experiences destiny.

4. Repentance and Istighfar

Repentance and asking for forgiveness (istighfar) are practices that are highly emphasized in Islam. By repenting from sins and seeking Allah’s forgiveness, a person can change the direction of his life and obtain His mercy.

5. Be patient and grateful

Patience in facing trials and gratitude for all the blessings given by Allah are attitudes that are highly valued in Islam. By being patient and grateful, a person can experience destiny with peace of mind.
